Jack Bing’s 2017 Expansion Mock Draft #1

It’s that time of year again. I have returned to the league to give my take on the upcoming expansion draft. The players have been showing their talents, and the draft order has been set.

Pick #1 – St. Louis Cardinals

P – Garrett Evans

Perhaps the most intriguing arm in early draft analysis is that of Texas resident Garrett Evans, a hard-throwing righty who is expected to be top-round talent. After the Cardinals’ previous favorite had a brush up with media, the team was quick to dismiss his actions. With a first overall pick, they are assumed to pursue other means.

Pick #2 – Tampa Bay Devil Rays

RF – Mince Pelling

Whitt Bass retired from fake baseball to buy the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. From his previous job he brings a lot of experience in what makes players great. Combining the intriguing power/lefty combo with an enthusiasm to play, and Pelling is definitely a great first round pick, especially with the limited outfield pool in the draft.

Pick #3 – Boston Red Sox

LF – Rambo McFly

Another intriguing outfield piece would be Rambo McFly, the neutral lefty who made the scene early with his Preller Prospect Video. He is seen as a great defender with average pop, and has the makeup of a fantastic player, both personality and skill-wise.

Pick #4 – Los Angeles Dodgers

P – Superbone Threefinger

Another potentially great arm comes in the peculiar character of Superbone Threefinger. This Showcase Series starter possesses excellent control to combat mediocre power. He has the stuff, and definitely is carving himself out as a safe pick. He could potentially go higher, having ties to Whitt Bass and the Devil Rays, but it is very possible that the Dodgers will pick him up.

Pick #5 – San Francisco Giants

LF – Charles Magnus

Among the outfield cast is the very interesting Charles Magnus, a rock of a lefty you want manning your corner. He has a fantastic work ethic and can hit homers with the best of them. Magnus is the type of player that could breed high reward, though this floor is a question mark as well. His squabbles with Aych Imtiyaz are something to be considered, as well.

Pick #6 – Cleveland Indians

2B – Aych Imtiyaz

Imtiyaz came under fire recently as multiple GMs crossed him off their draft list after rude behavior. The kid has talent and some of the quickest legs I’ve seen, however, and he claims to be a changed man. The second-baseman could go anywhere from the first pick to the 80th pick. If the Indians want to take a leap of faith, this is a player they could very well do it on.

Pick #7 – Colorado Rockies

1B – Rusty Shackleford

It’s a sparse draft class for first basemen as well, and Shackleford is perhaps one of the best. A lefty is a commodity and a power hitter is nothing to overlook. The first baseman could possibly go higher, but his name hasn’t been mentioned much in draft talks yet.

Pick #8 – Texas Rangers

CF – Cardith Lorda

The contact lefty of Cardith Lorda is an intriguing prospect. He is not expected to hit many home runs, but his swing is something to ogle at. He hasn’t been mentioned too often at the top of the draft list, but his talents speak for themselves, allowing the Rangers to possibly rope a steal late in the first round.

Pick #9 – San Diego Padres

RF – Jordan Peppers

Peppers is an energetic outfielder that could go within the first round. The Padres GM seems to like his baseball IQ, and his approach at the plate is nothing to scoff at. Some doubt that Peppers could go in the first round, but it is not an awful prediction to make, especially with the theme of outfielders in this draft.

Pick #10 – Seattle Mariners

P – Johnny Dickshot

Dickshot is interesting, to say the least. The previous Orioles player is attempting to reinvent himself as a pitcher in this upcoming draft. He has shown competence in the Showcase Series, but some still doubt the viability of drafting a guy who just started pitching last Thursday. The Mariners, at the end of the round, may use their predicament to draft an experiment. Dickshot, as of now, is high ceiling, low floor, and he needs a  risk-loving GM to give him a look if he wants to go high.

Possible Lottery Picks: 2B Juan Diego De Las Rosas, LF Dominus Nominus, P Lim Tinecum, SS Dwendle van Hammersmith, P Con Copper
